"Inclusion is seen to involve the identification and minimising of barriers to learning and participation, and the maximising of resources to support learning participation."

Index for Inclusion - Booth and Ainscow 2000

At West Bretton Junior & Infants School we pride ourselves on being inclusive and strive to support all children 'to be the best that they can be’, by providing a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs and abilities of all our children. We plan our teaching and learning in such a way that we enable each child to reach for the highest level of personal achievement.

We recognise and support those children in our school who have been identified as having special educational needs, and those identified as ‘gifted’ and ‘talented’ according to national guidelines.

In our setting, successful inclusion results in:

  • every pupil feeling safe, confident and happy at school
  • every pupil achieving their full potential and enjoying their time at school - be that in lessons, during their play or lunchtimes, or when involved in any of our extended school activities
  • every child's belief in themselves as a learner and valued member of our school community.

Successful inclusive provision at West Bretton is seen as the responsibility of the whole school community, permeating all aspects of school life and applicable to all our pupils.
