West Bretton Junior and Infant School

Giving Our Children A Sense Of Direction for More Than 200 Years

Overview

West Bretton Junior and Infant school has four mixed-age classes and can take up to a maximum of 15 pupils in each year group.  They consist of the following:

Class 1/Foundation Stage

 This class comprises of:

  • up to 15 Lower Foundation Stage children who attend either part time from 9am until 12 noon, or have the option to stay until 3:30pm up to five afternoons per week.  This may be covered by extended-hours funding. This is equivalent to three terms of Nursery education.  All children will be aged 3 when they begin Lower Foundation Stage and will have their 4th birthday during this academic year.  You apply directly to school for a place in our Lower Foundation Stage (see admissions section).
  • up to 15 Upper Foundation Stage children.  These children attend full time and will have their 5th birthday during this academic year.  You have to apply to the Local Authority for a full time place in our school (see admissions section).

Class 2 (Year 1/2)

This class comprises of:

  • up to 15 Year 1 children, aged 5 and 6. Children will have their 6th birthday during this year
  • up to 15 Year 2 children, aged 6 and 7.  Children will have their 7th birthday during this year.

Class 3 (Year 3/4)

This class comprises of:

  • up to 15 Year 3 children, aged 7 and 8. Children will have their 8th birthday during this year
  • up to 15 Year 4 children, aged 8 and 9. Children will have their 9th birthday during this year.

Class 4 (Year 5/6)

This class comprises of:

  • up to 15 Year 5 children, aged 9 and 10.  Children will have their 10th birthday during this year
  • up to 15 Year 6 children, aged 10 and 11.  Children will have their 11th birthday during this year.

As well as the class teacher, additional adults work alongside each class.  During Literacy, children in Foundation Stage and Years 1 and 2 are taught in smaller groups through the Read Write Inc programme.  This enables children to have more individualised learning.  During other curriculum sessions work is scaffolded and differentiated to meet the needs of individuals.

Please see our class pages and curriculum pages for more information about individual classes and curriculum subjects.
